Leadership Iowa gives its participants a wide range of experiences and insights that focus on the issues and challenges facing Iowa and Iowa businesses. Through this enhancement of awareness, the program equips leaders to better appreciate and understand the condition of the entire state. Those selected for the program build a network with fellow participants that reaches across geographic, professional and economic lines. Our class pushed the number of program graduates over the 1,000 mark, and it was an honor and a privilege to be nominated and selected as a member of the 2012-2013 Leadership Iowa Class.
Over the course of 8 months, we spent three days per month in session in different regions of the state. Topics included government, agriculture, education, healthcare, economic development and other key issues facing Iowa businesses today. These sessions gave us the opportunities to tour various schools, manufacturing facilities, small businesses as well as the state house to meet with legislators.
My initial reason for participating in the program was to network with other Iowa business leaders and learn more about Iowa's political structures and key legislative topics. I walked away with much more. In addition to establishing strong relationships with other business leaders, I also witnessed first-hand the passion Iowa communities and businesses have for making our state a great place to learn, live and grow.
Thank you ABI and Leadership Iowa for the wonderful opportunity and experience – one that has made a significant impact on my personal and professional development and given me a renewed sense of pride in our state.
