LF Reporting Live from…. a Cattle Show

Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Association (MOCA), Hats & Horseshoes, NAMAMarion County Fair, and now the National Junior Shorthorn Show. What’s the only thing they have in common? Some extra special Lessing-Flynn sponsorship work!

Lessing-Flynn does a variety of pro-bono work for varying non-profit organizations and events. Most recently, we helped out a national cattle show. Yes indeed, we said cattle show!

Each year the National Junior Shorthorn Show (NJSS) is held in a different state. This year the cattle show set-up shop at the Iowa State Fairgrounds from June 24-29.

When the NJSS asked for our help we couldn’t resist! We had a few livestock girls in the office. Although Lessing-Flynn assisted with a few different tasks for the show, our big undertaking included creating and managing their social media channels. During the 2013 event, more than 400 NJSS junior exhibitors (ages 8-21) from 24 different states brought over 560 head of cattle to Des Moines. However, this national cattle show is more than showing cattle. Junior exhibitors spent the week competing in various leadership building contests to sharpen their skill sets.

*** Word of Advice from LF – In today’s world, if you plan to host an event without a strong social media campaign, you are missing out on easy success.

For the National Junior Shorthorn Show, we created and utilized two social media platforms – Facebook and Twitter. Our goal for these pages was to engage with exhibitors in a creative way to promote the event and gather excitement. We also wanted the NJSS pages to be the “go-to” place for valuable information provided in a timely fashion. Plus, both pages allowed the NJSS to interact with major sponsors while drawing attention to their pages.

Besides posting valuable content and information from behind the computer, another thing Lessing-Flynn did was provided LIVE coverage of the show. Kylee Deniz, account manager, and Bailey Core, marketing intern, spent a few hours on different days at the fairgrounds covering the NJSS. From posting live tweets at the opening ceremonies to posting pictures of the show champions, this type of coverage really leveraged the NJSS audience. All the sudden, the NJSS became an event all livestock enthusiasts could follow – even 2000 miles away!

We couldn’t be more thrilled with our success with our NJSS social coverage. In just over a month and a half, we accomplished:

  • 865 likes on Facebook
  • Reaching 39,918 different Facebook users
  • Fans from 5 different countries speaking 3 different languages… holy cow!
  • 375 followers on Twitter
  • Interacting with 96 different Twitter users
  • 200 tweets containing the AJSA’s hashtag – #NJSS13

So now the question is… how can Lessing-Flynn help you with your social media strategy and plan of attack? You have seen our results, so how can we benefit you?
