The job ad that came across my Facebook feed said, “If you get excited when you know you’ve balanced the unruliest of budget spreadsheets, you just might be the one we’re looking for!?” I laughed because that is so me! Over the last 25+ years, I have worked for Fortune 500 companies, state government and a small, family-owned firm. Plus, I am the mom of a teenage son so I am ready for anything that Lessing-Flynn throws at me!
I came to Des Moines from a dairy farm in Illinois, to attend Drake University. I earned both my bachelor and master’s degrees and never left! I met my husband of almost 20 years in a World History class at Drake so it has real meaning when we say, “and the rest is history” — ha. Together we enjoy our more than 90-year-old home in Beaverdale with our 14-year-old son and our 5-year-old mini goldendoodle, Eddie.
As an avid sports fan, I don’t miss a chance to watch my beloved Chicago Bears and I often experience the emotional roller coaster that all die-hard Cubbie fans do. If I am not in front of the TV binge-watching sports, you can find me near a soccer field watching my son or my nieces and nephews play. I also love to read, though someday I will probably be found trapped under the mountain of unread books in my bedroom.
As an organization enthusiast, you will never find me without my calendar or to-do list. My family can always rely on me to know which weekend we will be celebrating Christmas at least nine months in advance. I’ve even been known to start planning our next vacation as I travel home from the one we just finished. I am thrilled to be a part of the Lessing-Flynn team as the new office manager and I’m anxious to put my organization, administrative, technological and communication skills to work. They say they have unruly spreadsheets? I say: bring it on!
