Lessing-Flynn awards first LF BrandKind partnership to Des Moines Children’s Museum

Earlier this year, we launched LF BrandKind, a new pro bono marketing partnership designed to support local 501(c)(3) nonprofits. The program is an extension of our ALL-IN attitude — and a way to give back to the community that has given each of us so much.
We’ve always believed that strong brands help build strong communities. LF BrandKind is our way of putting that belief into action for organizations doing some of the most important work in Central Iowa with a gift of $25,000 in marketing services. More than 50 worthy organizations applied, and we were honored that they trusted us to play even a small part in their stories. We’re excited to announce Des Moines Children’s Museum as our 2026 LF BrandKind partner.

A STORY ROOTED IN COMMUNITY
Des Moines Children’s Museum began with a simple idea and a clear need.
In 2016, Julie Burtnette and Laura Johnson were new friends. When those motivated mothers realized Des Moines didn’t have a dedicated children’s museum, they set out to build one themselves.
What started as a traveling exhibit at local events quickly gained traction. By 2017, Burtnette and Johnson had opened the museum’s first temporary location inside Valley West Mall. Strong community interest — and plenty of visitors — led to expansion within the mall, setting the stage for even bigger growth ahead. Now, nearly a decade later, the organization is entering its next chapter.
A NEW SPACE — AND A NEW OPPORTUNITY
The Des Moines Children’s Museum is preparing to move into a permanent home at the former Des Moines Golf and Country Club site. The new location will offer significantly expanded space, including two levels of exhibits and seven acres of outdoor experiences designed for play, creativity and connection.
As the museum makes this transition, we’ll be there to develop branding and marketing materials that capture the energy and imagination that have fueled growth for the museum.
We’re excited about the impact we can make as Des Moines Children’s Museum continues to evolve. They have a powerful story and an infectious passion for their work. We can’t wait to get started.
