It’s always a little intimidating being the new kid, especially in a new state, but because Iowa has so much to offer I’m feeling more at home each day. After growing up on a dairy farm in upstate New York (yes, a farm in New York — it’s not ALL about the big apple!), I feel right at home with Iowa’s agricultural influences.
My deep roots in ag encouraged me to study agricultural business with an emphasis on dairy and equine sciences at Morrisville State College, where I earned my Associates degree. Later, I transferred to Ball State University to earn a Bachelor’s degree in communication studies. I then began my career serving many agricultural clients at marketing agencies like Bader Rutter and Osborn+Barr.
I’m a strong believer in the future of ag. In fact, every year I devote well over 100 hours volunteering with the National FFA Organization across the country. But I’m not all farm — I thoroughly enjoy my urban digs downtown. Outside of the office, I love adventuring with Tucker (my French Bulldog), hiking, road tripping and helping Tucker hone his agility trial skills. I also love to travel, I recently spent a few weeks in Ubud, Bali!
So far, there are a few things I’ve noticed since moving to Iowa:
- The local craft beers and unique restaurants are a thing to brag about.
- “Iowa nice” is a real thing. It seems like we might not like Nebraska, though?
- Dogs are a big hit at the Des Moines Farmers Market. Tucker was an instant celebrity!
I cannot wait to learn more about this great state and I know working for Lessing-Flynn will keep me “in the know” with the latest and greatest Iowa happenings. Here’s to the many new beginnings, challenges and friends to come!
