Today is National Agriculture Day, but what does this day mean to you? The Ag Day program was started in 1973, by the Agriculture Council of America to increase awareness of agriculture’s vital role in our society, but for many of us at Lessing-Flynn we already know what it represents.

Paris Solsma

Paris joined the LF team in July 2016, as a Project Manager. She grew up on a farm in Granville, Iowa with her parents and two sisters.

Growing up, agriculture was all around me — it’s in my DNA. My hometown of Granville, Iowa, Paris Solsma National Ag Daywas named “Home of the Black Soil” — the perfect place to grow corn, soybeans and a deep-rooted value for family and community. As a third-generation 4-Her, we were taught the importance of working until the job was done and never giving up. Farming soybeans and corn, hauling manure and raising cattle, hogs, sheep and goats throughout my childhood will always bring fond memories.

I’m thankful for agriculture because it instilled the value of hard work into my life and I’m so happy I get to share my family’s story with others through my work at Lessing-Flynn.

Angela Jiskoot

Angela Ten Clay National Ag Day

Agriculture has been my way of life, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Growing up on a farm in northwest Iowa, I learned the value of hard work at a very young age. My dad pulled double duty as a farmer and middle school teacher, so I grew up watching him do it all. Seeing his drive to do more left an impression in me — I knew I could do anything, because he could.

Some of my best memories have been made helping during harvest with my dad and my younger brother. Nothing compares to watching the streaks of pink, orange and yellow as the sun sets over the field knowing how grateful you are for another bountiful and safe harvest.

Ag Day represents my family, our passion and a lifestyle that feeds the world. I am incredibly grateful for what I learned growing up on a farm and how it has shaped me into the person I am today. I’m thrilled that this background can be applied to my career at Lessing-Flynn and our many ag clients. There’s nothing like living your passions at work!
